Trees are known as a symbol of life and fertility. We plant them to make our cities more beautiful, provide shade for parks and streets, and prevent erosion from wind or water. But there’s one other important reason why we need trees: they produce oxygen! We’ll be talking about the benefits of cutting down trees and deforestation in this post – something you may not have thought about before.
Promoting New Growth
The cycle of nature doesn’t stop with just one single growing tree and letting it be for a century; sometimes, nature has its mysterious way to spark and fan the flames for when the forest grew rank and needed clearing in the name of promoting new growth.
We cut down trees to help promote new growth so that the woods can once again come back to life – or at least that’s what we hope for.
Deforesting
Deforesting the planet is not a new thing; humans have been doing this since before written history, and there are many reasons why it happens: clearing land for farming (either planting crops or grazing livestock), mining operations digging into the earth looking for valuable minerals, extracting oil and gas from the ground, building roads and settlements, and producing lumber for construction or fires are some of the main reasons.
Preventing Diseases
Sometimes trees can be infected with diseases that make the fruit they produce not suitable for human consumption. Sometimes trees are infected with diseases that make the tree itself become hazardous, like dying or falling down in a storm and causing damage to anything under it (including people).
Cutting them down is the only way to prevent these kinds of disasters from happening. It’s much better to cut down these hazardous trees before something terrible happens.
Keeping Public Safety
Tornadoes are frequently happening, and even a small scale storm can prove to be fatal when there are trees with large branches around. When there are storms, the branches of trees can easily fall off and be a hazard for people walking or driving by.
Creating Jobs
When we talk about deforestation, it doesn’t mean that all the jobs will go away – in fact, it could create more jobs. When we cut down trees, people need to do the logging, transportation, and milling. There is also a need for people who are in charge of planting new trees and taking care of them. So, deforestation can actually create more jobs in the long run!
